May 28, 29, and 30: War Returns to South Mountain: Civil War living history program

Where: Washington Monument State Park
When: Memorial Day Weekend
Park Entrance Fee $2/$3 per vehicle
Washington Monument State Park will be hosting the War Returns to South Mountain: Civil War living history program during the Memorial Day Weekend from 10am-4:30pm on Saturday, May 28th and from 10am-2pm on Sunday, May 29th.
Park visitors will get a chance to talk to living historians portraying the average North Carolina soldier about the importance of South Mountain as the battlefield commemorates the Sesquicentennial of American Civil War during this living history encampment.
Talks and living history demonstrations throughout the weekend will include the Civil War history of South Mountain during all three Confederate invasions, the hidden Civil War Sites along the Appalachian Trail, and "The Red Cross of its Time," a display of care packages that were sent from home to soldiers on the battlefront.
On Memorial Day, there will be an authentic cavalry program that will tell the story of Cole's Maryland Cavalry from 9am-4pm. For more information, please call the South Mountain State Battlefield 301-432-8065.
