Boonsboro Middle School top finisher in Maryland in Academic Competition
Hagerstown, MD (April 27, 2011) - A team of students from Boonsboro Middle School was the top finisher of eight schools in Maryland participating in the 56th Knowledge Master Open, an academic competition held on April 20, 2011. More than 17,000 students from the United States, China, France, South Korea and other international locations competed at their computers, vying for top scores by answering 200 touch-timed questions. Scoring was based on accuracy and speed. Boonsboro's team correctly answered 178 of the 200 questions and scored 1,347 of a possible 2,000 points. The mean score for middle school participants was 1,148.
Boonsboro Middle's ranking earned the team an opportunity to participate in the 4th Annual Junior National Academic Championship at one of three possible locations across the country in late May and early June.
The Knowledge Master Open was created by the Colorado publishing company, Academic Hallmarks, to stimulate enthusiasm for learning and to recognize academic accomplishment.
Team members are: Ethan Connelly, Kristen Delosh, Maggie Harrison, Leif Heaney, Paige Hilton, Nathan Hoberg, Zach Hull, Grace Li, Haley Mentzer, Tyler Olson, Jessica Reinhart, Aidan Thaggard, and Iris Wechsler. The team is coached by seventh grade English Language Arts teacher and Boonsboro Middle School Magnet Coordinator Martha Stenersen.
