Hagerstown, MD: When Roy Liles, a truck driver based in Iowa, rolled his rig as he was entering Interstate 70 on February 24th he was transported to Meritus Medical Center. His traveling companion Gizmo, a beagle & Jack Russell terrier mix was transported to the Humane Society of Washington County. On Friday February 25, 2011, still feeling the pain from his injuries, Liles came to pickup Gizmo.
Walking gingerly into the shelter, Liles waited with anticipation to see Gizmo. The joy was obvious in his face as he hugged his beloved dog. "I am so glad he wasn't hurt in the accident," said Liles. When speaking with him an hour later he indicated Gizmo was glad to see his dad. "He has been by my feet since I picked him up."
Liles suffered severe bruising to his left shoulder, fractured ribs and lacerations on his left arm. Working for Crawford Trucking at the time of the accident, he will be convalescing for approximately 3 weeks.
