Performance-based 'Hagerstown Rock School' to open in January

(Hagerstown, MD) December 7, 2010: The blockbuster movie "School of Rock" popularized the idea that anyone, no matter what age or level of experience, can indeed become a member of a rock band. The new Hagerstown Rock School, opening early January 2011, will provide the first educational opportunity of its kind in Washington County - combining individual musical instruction with weekly band practice and community performances. The school will accept students of guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and vocals from age 4 to adult, matching them with bandmates of similar age and ability, all in a safe, encouraging environment.
The school's roster of instructors is packed with professional musicians, led by Music Director and co-owner Scott Fisher, former writer and guitar player for Sony Music Entertainment/Epic Records recording artists Foam. Fisher - who has been playing since the age of 4 - believes his staff is unique. "This is a great concept because it offers students not only expertise in their chosen instrument but knowledge from musicians who have had hands-on experience rising through the industry writing, performing and touring," he said.
The school will offer four semesters per year plus weeklong music camps, clinics by special guest musicians and specialty songwriting classes for more advanced students. Song selection will change with each semester and encompass all types of rock music - from classic rock like The Beatles and the Rolling Stones to stadium rockers U2 and AC/DC to current favorites Kings of Leon and Paramore.
The school is also co-owned by Kate Rader, owner of RidgeRunner Publishing, LLC, publishers of Hagerstown magazine. "The rock school's programs fit right in because they can stand on their own or complement any existing music curriculum. Our goal for this school is to offer not only the opportunity to develop technique, but to actually get out into the community and perform. It's a win-win for music lovers and for the musicians," said Rader.
Hagerstown Rock School, LLC will be located at: 140 W. Franklin St., Suite 100, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Open 4-9pm Tues-Fri; 10am-6pm Saturdays. 301-790-0301.
