6th Congressional District Project Citizen Showcase

Hagerstown, MD (March 19, 2010): Washington County's eight middle schools participated in the third annual Sixth Congressional District Project Citizen Showcase at Hagerstown Community College last month. Project Citizen allows young people to understand the workings of local government, which will encourage them later to participate responsibly in the American political system.
All seventh grade students participated in the process and each middle school selected one group to present a project in the District Showcase. The projects were presented before a panel of educators and community leaders.
Northern Middle School finished first and E. Russell Hicks Middle School came in second. Northern Middle's performance earned a trip to the state showcase in Annapolis on June 2, 2010. The state Project Citizen coordinator ruled that the E. Russell Hicks team would also be allowed to participate in the state showcase. The state winner advances to the national showcase, July 25-28, 2010, in Louisville, Kentucky.
