Paramount Elementary Collecting Coins and Vitamins for Haiti

Hagerstown, MD (February 25, 2010): Paramount Elementary School students have been collecting coins and vitamins as part of the relief effort for Haiti. Physical education teacher Bill Zellman coordinated the coin drive, urging students to raid piggy banks, give up allowances and money from the tooth fairy and to talk about the project with parents and others in order to generate donations. Contributions were dropped in a large water bottle, and earmarked for the American Red Cross, which received a $700 check from Paramount.
The kindergarten students of Lucy Austin also heard of the lack of vitamins for Haitian children and began collecting bottles of vitamins from students, staff and parents. The drive generated 90 bottles of vitamins that will be contributed to the relief effort.
