Historic Love Letters Featured in Lecture

Hagerstown, MD (January 15, 2010) - The Jonathan Hager House and Museum will present "Love Letters" a free lecture and slideshow featuring the reading of more than twenty 18th and 19th Century love letters at 7pm on Thursday, February 11, 2010.
"This discussion will feature the presentation of love letters from a variety of well known historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte, Ludwig Beethoven and Abigail Adams as well as the written sentiments of more common men. We will be featuring what is considered by many to be the greatest love letter ever, that of Civil War soldier Sullivan Ballou, a Major in the 2nd Rhode Island Volunteers, who was killed in the First Battle of Bull Run or Manassas one week after writing the letter to his wife."
Bryan said, "Although the love letter as a form of literature has been around since man first put pen to paper, the writers of the18th and 19th centuries captured their emotions perfectly in their writing."
The lecture will be held at the Jonathan Hager House and Museum located at 110 Key Street in beautiful City Park in Hagerstown. Admission is free. For more information, call 301-739-8393 or email hagerhouse@hagerstownmd.org.
