Conococheague Elementary School Celebrates Excellent Attendance; Principal Holds Up His Part of the Deal

Hagerstown, MD (March 24, 2009): Conococheague Elementary School principal Ryan Hench came through on his part of an attendance incentive arrangement with his students last week, donning a Ravens jersey and purple and gold accessories, while sporting a purple mohawk on Friday the 20th, despite his long time allegiance to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hench had challenged the students to keep attendance above 96 percent during MSA testing and they were up for the challenge, averaging 97.8 percent for the week of March 16th and recording a near perfect 99.7 percent on Wednesday the 18th.
Hench admitted that the Ravens part of the deal was a tough pill to swallow for a Steelers fan, but said it was worth it.
"We've been using a combination of strategies to build our attendance numbers, and this was a fun way to do it. When the kids believe it's fun and exciting to come to school every day, it creates a productive learning environment for the teachers and students."
